Dear Kristina:
One of the things that endeared me to the frequent petitioners in Falmouth was adding the fee to the Petition Form
https://www.falmouthma.gov/DocumentCenter/View/1745/Article-Petition-Form--------Print-on-8-12-x-14-paper-double-sided
Hopefully at $200 it will take a few bake sales to apply for some of the half baked petitions.

That would be beneficial. In our case, the petitioner INSISTED on a separate Special Town Meeting which precludes bundling, and not certain if the Town is absorbing the other costs of holding this session, but it would be punitive, esp. given that our Annual is just a few weeks later. Ugh.
Best
Chris

Littleton adopted several longstanding policies – it’s been helpful to have these to point to.
- Town will not consider any citizen zoning petitions later than 90 days prior to a Town Meeting.
- Petitioner must pay for legal ad plus a $300 administrative fee.
Littleton PB does offer to meet with “potential petitioners” to discuss if the issue will be sponsored by the PB, and in that case it wouldn’t be a citizens petition.
Thanks, and good to hear from you!

**THIS EMAIL WAS SENT BY AN EXTERNAL SENDER**
Hello Friends and Colleagues,
A Friday question for my municipal peeps…for petitioned zoning amendments, who is responsible for paying for the legal advertisements for the statutory public hearing? The petitioner (s)? The property owner? The municipality? Here is Hudson this cost is borne by my Department’s Ad budget; and, as you all know, the cost for legal ads adds up quick. Lately, we are getting a lot of petitioned articles (many we don’t even support), and this cost is wiping out my budget.
Let me know how your municipality handles this cost.
Thanks, and stay warm.
Best,
Kristina
