 All,

In Connecticut as of October 1, 2022 (I believe), this is now a Building Code requirement for all new commercial and industrial development. I recently saw an application that had no EV charging station get approved in September, came back in November to modify the application significantly, and is now required to show an EV charging station to gain Planning and Zoning approval. No changes were made to Zoning Regs, it's just known that the Building Code will require it so the applicant showed it on his site plan.

That's Alex's point:     The challenge may be to provide (now in current approvals) for the capacity to retrofit sites with more charging stations in the future, such as having conduits in place and a plan for more....similar to what we do with overflow parking areas, planned for and set aside now, but not developed until the need arises.  No need to run the wires and place the charging outlets now; just have the conduits in place with messengers in them to pull wires later.  Maybe some of you are already asking for that?
Requiring one small number now, say one charging station for every 25 cars, will be woefully inadequate 10-20 years from now.

Hi all,

I wanted to see if any of you currently have provisions in your zoning bylaws which would require electric vehicle charging stations (or at least the infrastructure) to be installed in all new multi-family or commercial developments. There is some interest in Tewksbury in codifying this type of thing, and I wanted to see if anyone else had done it before we go reinventing the wheel.

Thanks for your time,

Alex
