[Massplanners] Capturing rail passengers from existing bus service?

Berkshire County is considering a pilot of a small "interurban" rail service between five of our municipalities along an existing rail line. Currently, we have an idea of ridership on this corridor based on an existing bus line that serves the same towns, in roughly the same itinerary that the rail service would. Obviously, not all these bus passenger trips would change to rail if the pilot started, but is anyone aware of a methodology or formula that could reasonably estimate rail ridership numbers based on known boardings and alightings at the bus stops? New passengers would also likely be attracted to the rail, especially tourists. The train platforms would be centrally located in the towns for the most part, with the intention of being walkable from the commercial centers.

Thanks,
Nick
