The 2022 Guidebook mentioned above, authored by Bob Mitchell and Bob Ritchie, is a tremendous resource for professional planners, the boards they work with, and municipal counsel. However, it’s starting to become a little dated given recent developments. After making such a substantial investment in this work, does APA-MA have plans to keep it current?

Kate: FYI. The Guidebook to Massachusetts Land Use, available on the APA-MA Chapter website, includes an entire section on this topic; Section 4-06, within Zoning Chapter. While it is not written in a checklist style, it does cover all of the topics you mentioned and much more and does include some tables for certain of those topics. It also includes a number of references to MA court decisions on zoning adoption and amendments with direct links to the entire cases.

Does anyone have, and is willing to share, a zoning regulation change checklist for a town? I’m looking for a detailed checklist from beginning to end. Abutters notices, legal ads, public hearings, what needs to be done when…etc.  Basically, “what to do when” to ensure all steps are covered.
