Brookline had (and apparently still has) an "administrative site plan review<https://ecode360.com/36312663#36312663>" for public (and private) school buildings in residential districts. This is a staff level review that the Planning & Community Development Director manages, resulting in recommendations for (generally minor) changes to the project layout.
I did a review of a renovation to an existing elementary school that was interesting!

Subject: [Massplanners] Planning Board review of municipal projects
Good morning, planners.
Do any of your communities incorporate a review by the Planning Board (either formally or informally) of municipal building projects? In Milton, municipal uses are allowed in all zoning districts, and the types of projects that would trigger site plan review by the Planning Board are limited to multifamily and commercial uses. Municipal projects will often give a courtesy informational presentation to the Planning Board, but it's not consistent.
