Sad to report that the planning community has lost one of its pioneers -
Phil Herr passed away 2 weeks ago at the age of 92. Phil was an innovator,
an educator, a mentor, a leader and a dedicated volunteer in Newton, his
long-time home city. He taught at MIT DUSP, had his own planning consulting
firm for decades and provided planning services all around Massachusetts,
in other states, and internationally.
Many of us learned so much from Phil in his talks at conferences, in his
classroom, in meetings, and in his chats with everyone about planning
issues and topics. He worked tirelessly in Newton on planning and zoning,
leading the effort to adopt the 2007 Comprehensive Plan and so much more.
This is the link to his obituary.
