Rockland, MA (17,890 pop.), is seeking a Town Planner to lead the professional and administrative work for the Town’s Planning Department, which includes the Planning and Zoning Boards. The ideal candidate will be a critical thinker, skilled public speaker, and mission-oriented team player who cares deeply about improving the lives of residents and supporting local businesses. A top priority will be working to execute the Town’s Master Plan. Some of the Town’s priorities include updating zoning regulations to facilitate more diversified housing production, increasing walkability, and improving downtown Rockland. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work across town entities, and the ability to work independently is essential. Rockland has a mixed-use town center surrounded by compact neighborhoods with single-family subdivisions. The Town has a five-member Board of Selectmen and Town Administrator with Open Town Meeting.  Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a related field and minimum 3 years of experience in land use planning, preferably local government, of which at least 3 years were in an administrative or supervisory position, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of Subdivision Control Law, the Zoning Act, Town of Rockland Zoning Bylaws, Smart Growth Districts, Green Communities Act, Municipal Vulnerability Planning. Ability to prepare annual budget, plan, research, collect and analyze data, read maps and plans, and manage multiple projects.

Annual salary: $90K+/- DOQ. EOE.
