All,
Ipswich has been involved with a group called the Building
Electrification Accelerator. This is a strong group of cities/towns and
citizens working to allow MA communities to prevent the use of fossil
fuels in new construction in the longer term. This includes the 10
communities headed up by Brookline that have been seeking to prevent the
installation of fossil fuels in new construction.
More immediately, people involved with this group are *preparing useful
information for communities seeking to adopt the Specialized Stretch
Code*. For those of you not familiar with this, it is an enhanced
stretch building code that was just made available by the state in late
December for adoption. *The base stretch code,* that most of us have
already adopted (299 of the 351 communities in MA), has also just
changed to require more energy efficient building standards, but it*does
not go nearly far enough*. The *Specialized Code has more direct
benefits for fully electric buildings, and requires EV charging wiring
and rooftop solar if feasible.*
On the good news front, both*Brookline and Watertown passed the
Specialized Stretch Code at meetings last night!
*
I am inquiring about *which**cities and towns in MA are considering
adopting the Specialized Stretch Code within the next year.*
*If your community is considering adopting the Specialized Stretch Code
in the next year, and you would like to get involved with the
information and support provided by the group, please provide me with
the following information:*
* Contact person and email address*
The*date of the city council or town meeting* you are targeting to
introduce the Specialized Code
The *name of the sponsoring group*, if any, within the community
supporting the article to council or town meeting
Thank you for your interest.
