Description:
Local land use rules that support nature-based solutions to climate change have many benefits, including reduced flood risks, protection of water quality and supplies, reduced costs of road and stormwater maintenance, open space protection, and preserving community character. Outdated bylaws and regulations can prevent communities from implementing these win-win solutions. Learn how to use a Bylaw Review Tool that can help you give your community's land use regulations a tune-up to ensure they support cost-effective best practices. This in-depth training will prepare you to undertake a bylaw/ordinance review process with municipal officials. We'll provide resources to support implementation.
For an introduction to why bylaw review is an important first step to ensuring local climate resilience, the 90-minute preliminary training webinar recording can be accessed through the SNEP Network here<https://snepnetwork.org/2022/02/18/is-your-community-climate-resilient-bylaws-and-best-practices/>. This how-to training builds off of the previous training by providing a deeper dive into using the bylaw review tool. Bring your own bylaw or ordinance for an interactive working session to test out the tool.
This training will be delivered by: Mass Audubon, Blackstone Watershed Collaborative, Cape Cod Commission, Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District (SRPEDD), Mass DEP, EPA Region I, and Mass Rivers Alliance.
