Our speaker will be Dr. Raul Fernandez. Dr. Fernandez is a Lecturer and former Associate Dean for Equity, Diversity & Inclusion at Boston University's Wheelock College of Education & Human Development where he studies, writes, and teaches about inequities in education. He is also an appointee to the Racial Imbalance Advisory Council of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and was recently named a Public Impact Scholar by the Initiative on Cities.
Throughout this session, participants will learn how racial justice intersects with these issues and will develop a firm understanding of their responsibility as municipal leaders to center communities of color in their policymaking. Participants will also have an opportunity to learn from each other by sharing their own experiences, successes, and missteps. The sessions also will explore the deep systemic inequities related to how communities have been built, connected, resourced, and governed while exploring opportunities to meaningfully address these racial dipartites through community-engaged policymaking.
