[Massplanners] Staff Planner Positions

Yes – you can either bid for a single peer-reviewer, say annually, by issuing an RFP for proposals – I am sure there are good examples – generally someone who doesn’t represent the majority of the developers locally to avoid conflicts of interest, or you can bid each project to three on an approved list for example – either choose three with the applicant that they are comfortable with (especially if it’s a specialty, like cell towers, wetlands/endangered species, traffic…) and go with the best bid each time you need a peer reviewer; or the single-reviewer can be combined with the specialty 3-bidder approach, say, if most of the work is subdivisions and inspections, with occasional special reviews needed, so perhaps a civil engineering firm that is close by that can get to inspections relatively quickly.

The town has to go out for bid to hire the consultant(s) - correct ? Can any one provide a link to the rules for that?

We would prefer stormwater designs to be reviewed by a qualified 3rd party engineer.

Wondering how many/if any towns have planning staff that have engineering background and who review stormwater designs for projects in permitting as part of their responsibilities.
