Good Morning,

Middleborough passed our 40R Smart Growth Overlay District and Bylaw on October 4, 2021, with a vote of 90 in favor and 37 opposed. The article passed by more than two thirds but it was stated by the moderator that only a majority vote was needed to pass.

I have been asked to inquire whether any communities have used the new majority rule for certain housing provisions, as now permitted under the new housing choice law.

If your community has, would you please share and let us know what type of zoning was passed and whether the margin was between 51 - 65%.

Thank you in advance.

Good morning MassPlanners,

MAPC is a member of a Task Force comprised of advocacy organizations, utility representatives, charging station installers, and governmental departments tasked with looking for opportunities to expedite permitting for electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The Task Force has drafted an EV Charging Station Expedited Permitting Ordinance designed to enable Massachusetts municipalities to adopt a framework to provide charging station permitting that is safe, equitable, and timely.

Please e-mail me directly if your municipality is considering adopting an EV permitting ordinance and would be interested in reviewing the draft EV Charging Station Expedited Permitting Ordinance.

Best,

Alison Felix

Hi all

Harvard is looking into a regionalization solution for its sustainability and climate action staffing. Can any communities that have such staffing, at any level, please share what areas of focus their S&CA staff address (e.g., MVP and climate action planning, energy, nature based solutions, land use, transportation, etc.)?

Also, if you have a job description, that would be very helpful too, but if not, just a title and department/board affiliation would be useful.

Thanks in advance and happy Friday.

Chris
