Hi Darlene - a good place to start would be Arlington's excellent Bicycle Parking Guidelines. See in particular the required bike parking by land use table on p.16-17. Quick summary: the Town requires 3 long-term bike racks (6 spaces)for every 4 units in a MF building, and far less for outdoor short-term bike parking. For office/Commercial use, roughly 1 bike rack for every 6,000 SF.
https://www.arlingtonma.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/48389/637103796678030000#:~:text=The%20Arlington%20Zoning%20Bylaw%20defines,from%20the%20associated%20principal%20use.

With the popular Minuteman Path and proximity to Somerville, Cambridge and Red Line MBTA stations, Arlington's mode share is likely more multi-modal (roughly 5% bike, I believe) than Beverly's but it's probably a good target to shoot for.

For contrast, more-suburban Lexington ties bike parking directly to required automobile parking and is far more modest than Arlington's. See 5.1.8 of their Zoning Bylaw: https://ecode360.com/27629834
5.1.8 - Bicycle Parking Facilities.
1. Required spaces. In an office, manufacturing, research or laboratory use as defined in the parking and loading tables, a minimum of two bicycle parking spaces shall be provided, and one additional bicycle parking space shall be provided for each increment of 20 motor vehicle parking spaces over 40 vehicle spaces.

Good luck

Hi all,
We are looking to amend our Zoning Ordinance to add minimum bicycle parking standards in addition to our existing automobile parking standards. What other communities have bicycle parking standards and can you please share them?. Particularly I'm interested in communities with similar mode share as Beverly: e.g. greater than 75% auto/drive alone, less than 5% bicycle commuting.

Thank you,

Darlene Wynne, AICP
