Re: Cell Towers

We had an issue with the additional height that was to be added to an existing cell tower located in a church bell tower. The attorney for Verizon told us that we had no option but to okay the addition and cited legislation enacted during the Obama Administration that effectively invalidated all local by-laws, rules and regulations. Bottom line they did what they wanted and we were forced to rubber stamp everything they wanted.
A great example of the BIG corporation bulldozing a small town .
II wish you luck, but doubt you will have any "real" role to play if the big guys want something.

Dear MassPlanners:

Here in Pembroke, we are curious to know if other towns in Massachusetts have provisions in their zoning bylaws regarding cell towers. Our zoning bylaws never mention cell towers, which makes it a bit tricky when we get a site plan application for one. We are aware of course that we cannot (and should not) prohibit them entirely.

So I'd like to learn about how other towns handle the siting of cell towers, and in particular I'd love to see examples of how other towns' zoning bylaws regulate cell towers.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best,

Matthew Heins
