Hi all – I hope you are having a great day today!

Situation: Duxbury has an old way – traveled/used/maintained by the Town, but never laid out by plan for most of its 2 mile length, with a hand-written set of old deeds at least 100 years old which, when evaluated by local surveyors, show
the actual layout is not likely to be parallel in width and could be in and out of the actual layout. In order to better understand the situation and in order to plan for a possible sidewalk in this stretch of road the town is preparing to go to Town Meeting
a seek funding to hire a professional surveyor to do an actual layout of the road to ascertain its width, encroachments, utilities and the like, as a first step, to see if there will be a need for widening, negotiations with property owners, etc. to add a
sidewalk. A rough ballpark by one local surveyor is a little under $300,000 for the initial layout plan and survey.

Question for the hive: have any of you done this in the past, where you could refer me to that
surveyor you have used, and/or have a similar scope of work we can review, so that we don’t reinvent the wheel?

(Our current scope includes researching the deeds, locating the existing bounds, surveying the length of the road and locating/staking corners/bounds or other markers to provide a survey plan of the existing layout, and surveying the extent
of the existing traveled way for existing conditions – sidewalks, crosswalks, curb cuts/driveways, utilities, drainage structures, hydrants, mailboxes, stone walls. It includes police detail as the road is heavily traveled during the day. It will also include
locating structures in the traveled way if outside of the existing scope above such as homes, decks, sheds, garages, for example).

We want to request ballparks from other qualified companies to get a better understanding of the costs before getting to town meeting.
