Carolyn: Below is a link to a map that the Nantucket Planning & Economic
Development Commission created in 2007 of all 351 cities and towns which,
at that time, had either appointed or elected planning boards.
I would note it is somewhat out-of-date as, in the case of Amherst, the
planning board is not appointed by the Mayor (Amherst does not have a
mayor), but by the town council. As more towns moved from the select
board/town meeting to town council form of government over the last 10-15
years I suspect that other towns also have their town council as the
appointing authority.
