Good afternoon! Sending along two trainings the Massachusetts Housing Partnership will be hosting in the coming weeks.


  1.  March 19, 12 - 1:30 p.m.: Tools and Strategies for Explaining MBTA Communities Zoning

One hundred and seventy-seven Massachusetts cities and towns subject to the MBTA Communities Law are required to adopt compliant multifamily districts. Learn how planning consultants and practitioners are helping voters understand complex zoning proposals in advance of city council and town meeting votes. Session will include examples of specific practices, information and visuals used to build understanding and support.

  1.  Fostering Effective Public Engagement (Virtual and in-person)

MHP has partnered with Citizens Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA) and the Consensus Building Institute (CBI) to develop an interactive four-module training program to foster effective public engagement in our communities. The training will start by framing why it is important to create safe and effective public meeting spaces, followed by an overview of four main topics:
1. Understanding legal requirements pertaining to public meetings.
2. Engaging in effective outreach and creating meeting ground rules.
3. Structuring public meetings for success.
4. Learning how to keep a meeting from going off-topic.

This training has been developed for municipal staff and board members, as well as local housing advocates. Trainers include the attorney general’s office, Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC), and CBI.

April 1, virtual on Zoom. This session will run 9 a.m. - 12:45 p.m., including two short breaks. There is no cost to attend.

April 10, in-person. The training will be held at 100 High Street, Boston, MA 02110. on the ninth floor. The cost to attend is $50. Check-in begins the day of, at 9 a.m. in the first-floor entryway. The training begins promptly at 9:15 a.m. and will run until 1 p.m. A light breakfast and lunch will be served.
Refunds will not be issued to registrants who do not attend the training.
Registration will close one week before the training, or once capacity is reached, whichever is sooner.
