Great to see some of the seminal works being shared. (Though I always stop to ponder the fact that after writing The Death and Life of Great American Cities, Jacobs chose to live for nearly 40 years in Toronto).

A pair of works that really ought to be on the required reading list for all planners (probably even more important that veteran planners dive in), by Richard Rothstein (the second co-authored with his daughter, Leah):

Richard Rothstein and Leah Rothstein advocate for racial housing reforms on a national scale.

If the stack of books to add to your reading list gets too daunting, there are lots of multi-media options for consuming the essence of these books.

Cheers, Doug.

P.S. Thanks for initiating this thread, Katrina!

A few of my favorites:

  1. The Death and Life of Great American Cities - Jane Jacobs
  2. The Rise of the Creative Class - Richard Florida
  3. The Power Broker - Robert Caro

Hello,

I’d like to give a gift to my planning intern as her time working here is almost done. I’d like to buy her a good book for a new planner. Any recommendations?
