Town of Dedham Planning & Zoning Department Internship Opportunity!


Description

The Town of Dedham's Planning & Zoning Department is seeking a Planning Intern interested in participating in a team-oriented office, focusing on land use and community development. The Department serves in a wide range of duties and responsibilities in areas such as planning and land development, land use, subdivision control, zoning, economic development, and infrastructure improvements.



Work involves contact with Town residents, other Town Departments, land use professionals, attorneys, business developers, business representatives, appointed and elected officials, and the public and is carried out primarily in the office. Some field work may occur for the purposes of site plan reviews, inspections, fact finding, and other Departmental functions. The Intern is welcome to attend evening Board meetings with other staff.



The selected candidate can expect to learn municipal planning, public communications, plan review, and other pertinent municipal planning functions.


Qualifications
Prospective candidates should possess these skills:

  *   Undergraduate or graduate enrollment in Urban Planning or closely related field
  *   Excellent communication skills
  *   Analytical research and writing skills
  *   Adaptability
  *   A desire to learn planning in a municipal setting
  *   Familiarity with Microsoft Office software
  *   GIS
  *   Ability to read maps and plans
  *   Basic knowledge of Massachusetts land use law



Other Details

The selected Intern will be expected to work a maximum of 12-15 hours per week with compensation of $18/hour. The Planning Department is open Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., however intern schedules can be flexible. This position is not benefit eligible.
