Assistant Planner



The Town of Burlington seeks an Assistant Planner, supporting the Planning
Director and Senior Planner in performing a wide variety of tasks, with the
opportunity to work on a diverse array of planning initiatives.



Examples of work include:

   - Reviews site plans and subdivision plans for compliance with municipal
   regulations.
   - Performs site inspections to certify compliance with approved plans.
   - Assists in the preparation of Meeting Previews and Staff Reports for
   the Planning Board and filing of Decisions
   - Participates in the preparation of amendments to the zoning bylaw,
   subdivision rules and regulations, and site plan rules and regulations.
   - Assists the Senior Planner in management of GIS data and maps.
   - Conducts research on community characteristics, trends, and needs.
   - Provides technical assistance to Town staff, Boards, Committees, and
   the public.
   - Assists in interdepartmental Development Application Review meeting
   coordination.
   - Develops, implements and manages department social media platforms.
   - Provides customer service and responds to office inquiries related to
   planning, zoning and projects under review.
   - Assists the Recording Clerk in minutes review and distribution.
   - Any other duties as required.



*Minimum Qualifications:* Minimum qualifications include a B.S. in
planning, geography, public administration or related fields, and one year
experience in municipal planning. An equivalent combination of education
and experience may be considered.



*Knowledge, Ability and Skill*: The position involves daily interaction
with the public, applicants, and municipal officials, requiring strong oral
and written skills. The position also requires independent travel for
on-site field inspections of ongoing projects. Position may require
occasional attendance at evening meetings. Computer skills for word
processing, spreadsheets, and databases required. Knowledge of Geographic
Information Systems (ArcGIS), The American Community Survey, design and
visualization software, social media and website software experience is a
plus.



This position is full-time (35 hours per week). This position is within
Grade 10 of the Administrative & Professional compensation plan, with
comprehensive benefits.
