[Massplanners] Juneteenth Follow Up

I must be really out of it, or clueless, or something, but why would any city or town, or other public agency, or private employer NOT honor Juneteenth? Am I missing something? Seems to me if we can jump for joy about celebrating July 4, which did not gain any independence for slaves and actually helped to institutionalize slavery in the U.S., surely we can figure out why we ought to recognize Juneteenth.

MAPC observes Juneteenth as well.
Because Juneteenth falls on a Sunday this year, it will be observed at the agency on Monday, June 20th. Additionally, because Juneteenth was on a Saturday last year, MAPC observed the holiday on Friday, June 18th.
Additionally, MAPC’s Equity Team made space for an acknowledgment, a 10 min clip from the documentary “High on the Hog”, and a brief but poignant discussion on what the holiday means and what it means for the holiday to be observed as a state holiday.
Hope this helps.

Thank you all for the overwhelming, timely response. I was no help to Liz because I’m the guy who responds to a “See you Tuesday.” with a “Huh, what?”

Hi all,
Asking this for our Conservation Agent:
This question was asked previously, however a search of the results only show 2 communities that have accepted Juneteenth Day as an observed holiday.
I am asking again for a response to this question as it is up for discussion at our personnel board meeting next week.
Thank you in advance for your responses.
