As Massachusetts continues to wrestle with an unprecedented affordable housing shortage, more pressure than ever will be on local governments to come up with solutions that meaningfully address the crisis.
Today's demands make it essential for community leadership to fully understand Chapter 40B, the state statute. Most in the planning community have a good grasp of the basic law, but every project brings new challenges and new questions.
Additionally, new state laws and regulations designed to address the housing shortage can be a source of confusion for many municipalities when designing local housing policy. Understanding the nuances of Chapter 40B can help communities avoid barriers to the development of desirable affordable housing.
Attorney Paul Haverty of Blatman, Bobrowski & Haverty, LLC will present a comprehensive program entitled "Chapter 40B Fundamentals - A Training on the Affordable Housing Law".

Attorney Haverty's practice focuses on real estate and land development, as well as municipal law. He specializes in permitting and litigation involving comprehensive permit projects pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 40B.
This presentation will include segments on:

  *   understanding safe harbor
  *   critical application components
  *   negotiations and work sessions
  *   drafting of decisions
  *   other topics encountered when working with 40B projects.
This program is tailored for the professional planning community and highlights AICP Continuing Education topic areas of "Law" and "Housing". It will consist of a one-hour presentation including a 30-minute question and answer session and will provide 1.5 AICP CE credits.
Space is limited so RSVP as soon as possible to lock in your attendance. Zoom links will be emailed the day of the workshop. Since space is limited, please be courteous to your fellow colleagues and cancel with some advanced notice so folks who may be on the waiting list can attend.
