[Massplanners] APA-MA Housing & CD Committee Lunchtime Conversations 11/16/21

Hi Everyone,

The American Planning Association (APA), Mass. Chapter Housing & Community Development Committee has a great program next Tuesday, Nov. 16, at noon! In response to requests we’ve heard from city and town planners, we’ve asked representatives of two non-profit housing/community development organizations to talk about some of the challenges and opportunities involved with creating small projects that offer 100% affordable units. Our panelists will include Jessica Allan and Laura Baker, Valley Community Development Corporation, and Kristin Carlson from Harborlight Community Partners. Jessica, a former city planner, who will focus on lessons she’s learned from going from planning to the affordable housing development side, and assumptions she had as a planner on affordable housing development that changed when she moved to the development side. Laura is an expert in developing deeply affordable housing and she will discuss feasibility issues that developers face along the way. Kristen will present a few Harborlight’s smaller affordable housing projects, including one as small as six units.
